Dear Families,
We are excited to launch our new program, “Go Grow,” at Ridgewood Elementary School. Go Grow is a unique, site-based program offered at some Pitt County Schools.
If your child has been selected to participate in this program the will attend once a week during their resource time either on Thursday or Friday. The AIG director for PCS developed a rubric for us to use to determine eligibility. For fourth and fifth grade students, we looked at their EOG scores and CogAt scores to determine eligibility. For second and third grade students, their Read 3D data was utilized to determine eligibility. “Go Grow” stands for: Growing Our Genius by Reaching Our Wonders. The program is designed to strengthen your child’s problem solving abilities and creativity based upon their interests.
We will be working on coding and transferring that new knowledge into different content areas and help them make connections with using reading, math, science, social studies and writing. The programs we will be using are Coding.org and Lego Education WeDo2.0. This will provide the students with hands on experiences to enhance their learning while helping them to problem solve and use their creativity to express what they have learned.
